Current Season Finale news

Here are a few items of news concerning the finales of some of the current season shows:

X-Files – the season finale is to be a double-length episode, taking the season to the usual 22-episode length;

Xena – as a further example of the disdain which this series is being subjected to, the last few episodes have been postponed until June, meaning that the show will hardly feature at all in May Sweeps.

Buffy – The finale will be a double-length special episode featuring guest appearances by a number of former cast members including the main cast from Angel. As a result, Season 2 of Angel will only run 21 episodes.

Editor’s Note: If anyone is surprised at the length of the list above, (around 120 pilots), this is actually nothing new. Every year we hear of dozens of ideas that make it to pilot, but of these, very few ever get into the schedule. By the sound of some of the weak ideas above, next year is not going to be much of a match for this year, where the new shows have been very strong, and some of them have literally locked a section of the audience – shows like CSI and ED.

Later in the year, we will publish a list of the ones that the Networks are proposing to include in the new schedule.
