Science Fiction newsletter archive project, by Catherine Jemma (Cate)

Please note this 'blog is under construction July 2006.

Between 1999-2003 I received the regular email-newsletters from the Eastlant science fiction club based in Florida USA. I dealt with a man named David Gerhard

My contact with them stopped abruptly on 19 May 2003. I believe that their was just one elderly gentleman running the outfit by then and I assume he was taken ill suddenly and died, although I do not know for certain.

However during the time I was in contact with them I receieved many emailed newsletters which have information about the newly released science fiction and fantasy tv shows and movies of the time.

Although "dated" this information would be of "historical interest" to some folks and I'm guessing it isn't archived anywhere else.

Currently at the time of writing this, I'm thousands of miles away in New Zealand but I am due to return to Australia shortly.

Once I have returned home I intend to get my old original 486 computer out of storage and set it up again, and then I will start the process of retrieving those old newsletters from off the hard-drive and pasting them up here.

Hopefully in 10 or 100 or 1,000 years time they'll be of some use to some cultural history researcher or someone.

Note also that before his demise, David also sent me about 3/4 of a book on how to run not-primarily-for-profit Fan-run conventions. (Relavent to science fiction and fantasy, as well as other club/fan gatherings). I have these files archived for safekeeping in a web based email account and can send copies of these onto folks who may request them. It is also my intention to set up another 'blog later for the archiving and easy public perusal of that information. Unfortunately those chapters that he hadn't yet sent me seem to have been lost for all-time. Although somewhere in the world, many other people were sent copies of that book in electronic form and I understand that many years ago a printed copy was made up cheaply and distributed (the book makes it clear that it is intended as public domain property and that reproduction for non-profit fandom use is encouraged)

cheerio for now
